Dr. Seema Apichai draws on her extensive dermatopathology experience to provide accurate diagnoses, helping clinicians identify the best course of treatment for patients. Dr. Apichai utilizes the patient's clinical history, description of symptoms, and clinical pictures to develop clear-cut and precise pathology reports for each individual. Dr. Apichai strongly believes in a collaborative team approach to patient care and works closely with the team to discuss
complex cases and ensure a precise diagnosis.
Dr. Apichai received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago with the highest distinction and earned her medical degree through the UIC's College of Medicine's prestigious Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions in 2005. After fulfilling her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Apichai completed her fellowship in dermatopathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Apichai has coauthored and collaborated in several publications and medical presentations and is up to date on the latest findings and advancements in dermatopathology.
The in-house dermatopathology laboratory has histology technicians working under the tutelage of Dr. Seema Apichai. They are responsible for embedding, cutting, and processing all tissue specimens taken from biopsies by the team's expert providers. When necessary, they perform special staining for further testing to ensure the proper diagnosis. In addition to histology technicians, Dr. Apichai oversees the grossing technician, who completes the first step in the dermatopathology process. They are responsible for grossing specimens for the histology tech to finish processing. They identify features including the shape and type of the specimen, number of pieces, dimensions, and configuration – an important step in pathology slide preparation.
In addition to its on-site laboratory, Beaird Dermatology also has an on-site pharmacy staffed by a full-time pharmacy technician. The pharmacy technician ensures prescriptions are filled promptly and accurately, eliminating unnecessary substitutions. The prescription service helps patients save valuable time by treating all their dermatology needs in one efficient visit. The Beaird Dermatology staff and pharmacy technician work closely with insurance companies to ensure that prescriptions are filled as economically as possible. When available, the staff utilize drug manufacturer discount coupons for additional savings.
