Surgical dermatology procedures involve removing anything from an unsightly wart, all the way up to a carcinoma or melanoma. Because Leslie Beaird, MD, and her team at Beaird Dermatology in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, are trained in advanced surgical procedures, you’ll have very minimal scarring. They even perform most procedures right in the office during a single visit. Dr. Beaird and her team offer flexible scheduling for all types of skin surgeries, even if you’re new to the practice.
Surgical work is performed by a board-certified dermatologist. Simple skin biopsies and cryosurgery can also be treated by a Physician Assistant.
Mohs surgery — named after the dermatologist who invented it — is a highly effective, gold-standard treatment for basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. Because of his extensive Mohs surgery training, Dr. James Quertermous performs all Mohs surgeries at Beaird Dermatology, so you can be confident you’re in expert hands.
During your procedure, Dr. Quertermous removes any cancerous cells as well as a small surrounding layer of skin. He then evaluates your tissue under a microscope while you wait and ensures that no cancer cells remain.
If he does find additional abnormal cells, he removes another layer of tissue from the same spot. While you do lose some skin tissue, as a Mohs surgery specialist, Dr. Quertermous spares as much healthy tissue as possible. You’re left with minimal scarring and a quick healing period.
